We bring counselling to you - whether you are at home, in a care home, or in hospital - so that you don’t have to travel to get support.

Our service is designed for people who are unable to attend conventional counselling appointments due to age, illness, mobility issues, or other circumstances.

Wherever you are in life, and wherever you are physically, we believe everyone should have the chance to talk, be heard, and feel understood.

People come to us for many different reasons, you might be:

Feeling isolated, low or depressed

Struggling with grief, loss, or life changes
Living with illness or pain
Dealing with stress, anxiety, or emotional overwhelm

You don’t need a diagnosis or referral to start the process - just a willingness to explore how you’re feeling.

How It Works

After receiving your enquiry, we arrange a Counselling Assessment to learn a little about your situation and whether counselling with Sage Counselling might be a good fit.

If it feels right to move forward, we’ll match you with either a trainee or qualified counsellor who can visit you regularly in person.

Here’s what to expect:

Sessions are held weekly
Counselling can be short-term or long-term (up to 2 years)

Costs and Contributions

Sage Counselling is a registered charity and while many of our staff give their time voluntarily or for a nominal fee, it still costs around £30,000 a year to run the charity. This is why we ask for affordable contributions according to your means.

No one is turned away due to financial difficulty.

We offer a range of concessions to ensure our service is affordable. We can discuss this when we speak and find a level that works for you.

FAQs

Each counselling session lasts 50 minutes. At the end of each meeting arrangements are made for the following session.
Sage counsellors are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework which means your sessions remain confidential. Trust and confidentiality are a part of the counselling relationship.
However there are limitations to confidentiality if the counsellor has concerns that might necessitate contacting other professionals. The issues that would raise concern might be if a client is seriously thinking about harming themselves or someone else. We would always endeavor to speak with the client before contacting any other professional but if there is an immediate threat to personal safety we would break confidentiality without consent. At the assessment clients are given information about confidentiality and are given an opportunity to ask questions.
Our counsellors receive supervision in line with the BACP Ethical Framework. This ensures their work is ethical, safe, and effective. Supervision means they meet regularly with a clinical supervisor (also bound by BACP confidentiality) to reflect on how they are working with their clients.

Everyone is unique and the number of sessions depends on each person’s needs. It is usual to agree to 6 meetings. During the sixth session the counsellor will help the client review feelings and thoughts about counselling so far. Counselling can then continue or finish. When the client wants to stop counselling, we request one final session to review the work that has been done.

Waiting times can vary depending on your location and our counsellors’ availability. We will talk about this during your free call or assessment.
No. While we began with a focus on older adults, we now support adults of any age who are unable to travel to counselling.
We focus on face-to-face counselling for people who cannot travel but we can also offer Zoom and telephone sessions when required.
